Grant Writer for a Mission-Driven Nonprofit

Description : Our client is a nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of thousands of LA County's most vulnerable children, young people, and families. Their strong and innovative programs have made them a valued partner of the community. They are seeking a Grant Writer to oversee grants management for the organization. Reporting to the Director of Development & Communications, the Grant Writer will improve funding models, locate new funding sources, and manage external Grant Writers. Additionally, this person will work with program staff and the Finance department to ensure that case statements and elements are updated annually.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee the entire grant proposal and award process, from application to reporting to closing, collaborating with the organization’s leadership team, program staff, and external points of contact

- Work strategically to improve funding models, find new funding sources, and ultimately create a stable, effective, long-term grants program

- Work with Finance department and program staff in developing an annual update of case studies and elements with external Grant Writers

- Ensure that memorandums of understanding with service providers are up to date and in good standing via regular review and updates with the Compliance department

- Write letters of introduction and proposals to prospective funding sources

- Produce mid-term and final reports for key stakeholders

- Review proposals to ensure that grant applications are compliant with regulations

- Research and vet potential funding sources, engaging and developing long-term relationships with funding agencies

- Maintain organization’s grant database

- Collaborate with Finance department on budgeting and reporting for grant proposals

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree, required

- 4-8 years of experience in grant writing and research in the nonprofit world or related area

- Experience working with grant research and constituent relationship management software (Bloomerang a big plus)

- Customer service mindset, with the ability to work closely with staff at all levels of the organization and to develop relationships with funding agencies and external vendors

- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a penchant for accuracy

- Demonstrated experience with both the administrative and financial side of the grant writing process

- Strong leadership skills with the ability to multitask and oversee multiple projects simultaneously

- Ability to use basic computer software and applications, including Microsoft Suites, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat

- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

- Strong commitment to the organization’s mission, required
